Amanda Louise Freed is an American former utility player and pitcher in professional softball. She was born in Fountain Valley on December 26, 1969. Amanda Freed played college softball for UCLA, helping the Bruins win the 1999 Women’s College World Series national championship. She was also chosen All-Tournament in each of her world series participation. She later earned a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics with Team USA. Freed joined the National Pro Fastpitch in 2005 and played for the defunct Rockford Thunder until 2008. She also served as Virginia’s coach. See here

She has garnered multiple honors, including a Golden Globe Award and a British Academy Film Award, as well as nominations for three Academy Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award. She was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007.
