Gilbert Island in the City of Huntington Beach, CA became known for its community beach with swings and a playground, many community parks, and stunning scenery of the high-end condominium units that populate this residential neighborhood – a lovely stretch of land that has developed into one of the city’s five “islands.”

Gilbert Island is a neighborhood surrounded by waterways and having jaw-dropping channel views, with the majority of “activity” occurring on the side of the “street” that residents do not generally see — the waterways and channels. With only one glimpse, travelers may completely appreciate Huntington Harbour’s grandeur during the yearly light decoration contest and public “Cruise of Lights” boat trips. Indeed, while the homes here are designed and constructed to have exceptional curb appeal, they are most stunning when viewed from the water, which is why area real estate agents frequently own boats and offer water tours to serious buyers interested in being a part of Huntington Harbour.

Gilbert Island’s common area (public park) features treatments given by the Garden Club, including the playground with bear sculpture, swing, and slide in a kid’s play area located at the base of a short hill and lush green parkway. While the playground is undoubtedly perfect for kids, adults go toward the grainy sands of Sunset Beach, an unincorporated town with facilities provided by the County of Orange located just a few minutes from the Gilbert Island area. For the visitor, there are larger beaches with more family-friendly activities than the smaller beach on Gilbert Island; this beach offers unrestricted parking during the summer and has developed a reputation for being a great location to sit in the shade and watch the children play.

To provide some context, development on the Huntington Harbour complex started in 1963, with the 1st stage of development encompassing two islands – Admiralty and Gilbert. Presently, Huntington Harbour is comprised of 5 man-made islands that provide a diverse range of single-family and condominium house designs. Each year, as the holiday season approaches, Harbour residents deck out their boats with decorations and lights for a “parade” through the waters during the “Cruise of Lights;” locals and tourists alike join the nightly parades, which have developed into a custom and a famous attraction.

Gilbert Island is surrounded on three sides by Admiralty Island to the west and the Main Channel to the east. It is home to 100 property plots, two-thirds of which are waterfront. (Source: malakaisparks.com)
